Dr. Conrado Oca is the new AMOSUP President.

With the demise of our Union founder last November 21, 2010, the legacy of Capt. Gregorio Oca will continue to burn bright under the helm of Dr. Conrado Oca, AMOSUP’s new president.

Officers and leaders of various international shipowners’ unions and associations expressed their confidence in and support for the new leadership.  Paddy Crumlin, President of the Maritime Union of Australia and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) wished Dr. Conrado Oca well, saying “It’s your turn and the turn of the wonderful team that you have put together here at AMOSUP to demonstrate absolute professionalism, moral and ethical commitment of the highest degree.”  Jacqueline Smith, the first woman President of the Norwegian Seafarers’ Union (NSU) stated “We are here for you.  You have the Norwegian unions’ full support.”

Capt. Yoji Fujisawa, President of the All Japan Seamen’s Union (JSU) conveyed his wholehearted support, pronouncing “I swear that all Japan Seamen’s Union under me and myself (are) fully committed to continue all of our projects.”  Dave Heindel, Chairman of the ITF – Seafarers Section Committee declared  “I will do everything possible to help AMOSUP under Conrad’s leadership to carry on the tradition and values (Capt. Oca) demonstrated over so many years.  Stephen Cotton, Maritime Coordinator of the ITF reaffirmed the federation’s support, saying “I know when Conrad takes over the organization, he will have from me and all of the ITF our full commitment of keeping the legacy of AMOSUP alive.”

Prior to his ascendance to the presidency, Dr. Conrado Oca has served the Union in various capacities.  He was the immediate past Executive Vice President of the AMOSUP-PTGWO-ITF; a member of the Board of Governors of the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific, and Medical Director of the Seamen’s Hospital in Manila.  He is also an accredited examining physician of seafarers in the Philippines and in various European countries including the Netherlands through the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, the United Kingdom Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Swedish Maritime Administration and the Royal Norwegian Maritime Directorate.  His other credentials include the Chairmanship of the Committee on Publications of the Philippine College of Hospital Administrators and active membership in organizations including the Philippine Medical Association, Manila Medical Society, International Maritime Health Association, Philippine Society for Quality in Health Care, and the Committee on Residency Training of the Philippine College of Occupational Medicine.

Dr. Conrado Oca is an alumnus of San Beda College.  He earned his degree of Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy at the University of the Philippines, Manila; Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center; Master’s degree in Hospital Administration at the University of the Philippines, Manila College of Public Health; and Certificate in Business Economics at the University of Asia and the Pacific.
