Vice Admiral Eduardo Santos is a maritime icon in the Philippines and embodies Integrity, Innovation, Initiator and Importance in the maritime sector that impacts comprehensive and global sustainable development
The Philippines nominated the president of Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP), Vice Admiral Eduardo Ma R Santos, AFP (Ret) as one of the IMO Maritime Goodwill Ambassadors 2023-24.
VAdm Santos, who is also the AMOSUP executive vice president and president at Bagong Bayani Foundation, has a distinguished career in the international and local maritime industry.
He is the GlobalMET vice-chair, Nautical PH branch president, IMAREST PH branch president, International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) regional representative and member of the IAMU International Executive Board and president of the Institute of Maritime Management of the Royal Institution of Singapore, all rolled into one and working enthusiastically for the enhancement of the maritime industry in the country.
With his various leadership roles in many local and global organisations, he has raised the bar of maritime education and training (MET) including but not limited to the competency and proficiency of seafarers. On 02 June 2014, during the MARINA’s 40th founding anniversary celebration at Palacio de Maynila, in Malate, Manila, MARINA accorded VAdm Santos the top “Timonel 2014 Award” for “raising the bar of academic excellence through sustained efforts in providing ‘qualified and ‘competent’ marine officers and seafarers, which largely helps in uplifting Philippine maritime education and training system.”
VAdm Santos has been responsible for conducting annual continuing professional development of seafarers with his involvement in leading government, NGO entities, international organisations, either as president, adviser or supporter that is beneficial for the Philippines and the global maritime arena in general.
He plays a key role in addressing local and global issues affecting people’s lives by promoting public awareness, use of technology and by initiating, organising, conducting and delivering talks at career forums, community fairs and local events.
As “Yan and Marino” TV host, he is dynamically engaged in weekly television. He is also active in giving interviews or information to local radio and newspapers for varied issues affecting seafaring education and training programmes, hence supporting various co-MET organisations in building a safer, secure and sustainable future.

On 20 November 2019, he was awarded the ‘Global Lifetime Achievement Award’ by Crew Connect, the world’s biggest annual manning event – a gathering of more than 500 stakeholders, executives, and experts in the global shipping, manning, and maritime education and training sectors.
