Share

With great pride and honor, we congratulate one of our members, Mr. Ike Dagandanan, for winning the first prize in the Still at Sea photography competition organized by the ITF Seafarers’ Trust.

Mr. Dagandanan’s winning photo entitled, “Hero at Sea,” shows seafarers fearlessly grappling with strong headwinds to secure cargo amid the stormy weather and rough seas. It is a visual testament of seafarers’ reality— their noble sacrifice and hard work at sea even in the face of danger.

Likewise, we congratulate the second prize winner, Jay Michael A. Ebueza for his photo “Secretly Quiet,” which was admired by the judges because of its message of hope and resilience among seafarers who still see the beauty of nature all around them despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic. We also laud the third placer, Carlo Deuxson Santiago for his entry, “No sign off? No problem,” which shows how seafarers’ sense of humor and optimism keep them going.

We at AMOSUP are extremely proud of you all! We also commend everyone who submitted entries to the competition.

According to ITFST, they received 3,000 digital photos from seafarers showing their lives at sea during the pandemic. The photos showed the huge variety of experiences of seafarers at sea during the pandemic, from personal portraits and day to day life, to extreme weather and deserted cruise ships.

We would like to express our utmost gratitude to the ITF Seafarers Trust for organizing this photography competition that gave our seafarers an opportunity to tell their stories and to shed light on their reality at sea through their impressive photography skills and creativity.
