Welfare and Mutual Benefit Plan

The WMBP provide members and their legal dependents with welfare and financial benefits. Instead of the member, the participating employers who sign CBAs with WMBP provision make the contributions for the upkeep and maintenance of the Plan. The following are the benefits included in the WMBP:

  • Clause A: Death on board of member
  • Death within 30 days grace period
  • Clause B: Death of wife/either parents (if single)
  • Clause C: Death of minor children
  • Clause D & E: Not qualified in Clause B & C
  • Old age financial assistance
  • Aid-death financial assistance
  • Fire victims
  • Discretionary assistance

NOTE: Claims could be released from AMOSUP Seamen’s Center or through different AMOSUP Hospitals in Iloilo, Cebu, and Davao.

  • Clause A - Death on Board of Member

    If death occurs to the member while on board a vessel under a valid and subsisting CBA between the AMOSUP and the ship-owner and during the effectivity of said CBA, services offered are:

    1. FUNERAL SERVICE – rendered to all bona fide members FREE-OF-CHARGE under the plans contracted by AMOSUP with the APEC Plans. All extra charges such as upgrading and extra kilometers (if remains w ill be brought to the province), airline or ship fare, will be charged to the family or to the company. Plan limit is 25 kilometers from the airport
    2. AIRPORT ASSISTANCE – provided in cooperation with the manning agent to help the widow process the release of the remains of the deceased up to servicing by the mortuary.
    3. For CBAs with the WMBP provision, the AMOSUP agrees to pay the designated beneficiary/ies the amount of:
      1. Master and chief Engineer = P250,000.00
      2. Other Officer = P210, 000.00
      3. Rating = P170,000.00

    NOTE This is applicable to some CBA only.

  • Death within 30 Days Grace Period of Member

    If the member is no longer working on board the vessel due to completion of the contract, expiration of CBA, naval/maritime risks and hazards cease, and within the grace period of 30 days from arrival in Manila, death or serious disabling physical injuries occurs, the reduced benefits and schedules are granted.

    Loss of life within 30 days grace period P20,000. 00

  • Clause B - Death of Wife/Either Parents (If Single)

    After two years of continued contributions by the ship-owner for the covered member and while he is still on board a vessel with an existing CBA between the AMOSUP and the ship-owner, if death occurs to a dependent of said member, benefits are:

    • Legitimate spouse of a married member P10,000.00
    • Either parents of an unmarried member P10,000.00

  • Clause C - Death of Minor Children

    After three years of continued contribution by ship-owners for the member concerned and while he is working on board a vessel with an existing CBA between the AMOSUP and the shipping firm if death occurs to a minor child of said member, member will receive:

    Legitimate minor children below 18 years old and unmarried P4,000.00

  • Clause D & E - Not Qualified in Clause B & C

    For cases not qualified under CLAUSE B and CLAUSE C but seaman is a bona fide member of the AMOSUP and has been an active member of at least two years, benefit is:

    Financial assistance and funeral allowance member’s spouse/children/parents = P2,000.00

  • Old Age Financial Assistance

    If you are a deserving member under the AMOSUP agreement who has reached the age of 55 years old and no longer working on board the vessel but a bona fide member for a minimum of five years of service on board vessels covered by the AMOSUPs’ Collective Bargaining Agreement, you shall receive an Old Age Financial Assistance subject to the recommendation of the Special WMBP Committee and approved by the Union President as follows: (10 months actual on board is equal to 1 year of service)

    • for the first year of service P2,000.00
    • for each year of service thereafter P 500.00

    This is payable in lump sum but shall not exceed the total number of years you have actually served on board vessel/s with Union CBA.

    This is given only once.

  • AID-Death Financial Assistance

    A member who died while on shore leave who have not received an OLD AGE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE or not qualified under DEATH WITHIN 30 DAYS GRACE PERIOD OF MEMBER but a bona fide member for a minimum of five years of service on board vessels covered by the AMOSUPs’ Collective Bargaining Agreement, member’s beneficiary shall receive an Aid-Death Financial Assistance subject to the recommendation of the Special WMBP Committee and approved by the Union President as follows: (10 months actual on board is equal to 1 year of service)

    • for the first year of service P2,000.00
    • for each year of service thereafter P 500.00

    This is payable in lump sum but shall not exceed the total number of years you have actually served on board vessel/s with Union CBA.

    This is given only once.

    Applies to those that are not qualified in the WMBP benefits but upon the discretion of the WMBP Board and AMOSUP President.

  • Limitation or Exclusion of Benefits

    No benefit or financial assistance shall be drawn or granted under the WMBP in a case of death by suicide, war or acts of war and/or civil commotion, insurrection, rebellion, uprising or similar political controversies, earthquakes, tidal waves or acts of God.
