    • What are the Center’s mission and vision?

      The AMOSUP Seamen’s Training Center (ASTC) envisions itself as the center of excellence and leading center for maritime training and upgrading of seafarers in the Asia/Pacific region. Its mission is to train and develop seafarers in order to ensure that they possess the technical skills and expertise necessary to comply with the requirements of STCW.

    • What are the aims of the Center?

      To provide subsidized job-oriented upgrading courses to Union members like you as well as to other Filipino seafarers to augment skills and competence as well as increase acceptability for employment in the International Maritime Fleet;

      to serve as a maritime training institution to supplement and upgrade the training of Licensed Deck and Engine Officers, and offer special technical courses for non-licensed Ratings and other IMO requirements as mandated in STCW-78 as amended;

      to improve the image of the Philippines as a modern maritime country with the highest quality trained seamen.

    • What are the Center’s Training facilities?

      The Center has facilities that provide realistic scenario for practical exercises of courses;

      1. Fire Fighting Complex (SBFF, ATFF, etc)
      2. Sea Survival Complex (BST, PSCRB, etc)
      3. Offshore Training Complex (BOSIET, HUET, etc)

    • What are the requirements for a particular courses?

      BST – Basic Training

      Offered to: All Officers, Ratings and Representation of agencies involved in the development of maritime manpower

      Requirements:

      • Photocopy of previous Medical Result
      • Two(2) pieces of latest 1 ½ x 1 ½ photograph
      • Applicant must be a High School Graduate
      • Must be at least 17 years old

      Note: MAAP, PMMA, FEATI
      University and Lyceum of Batangas midshipmen/women should present Medical Certificate with coverage period of validity from school physician since physical & medical examination is being conducted annually

       

      NWRC – Ratings Forming Part of Navigational Watch / Ratings Forming Part of Engineering Watch

      Offered to: Deck Ratings and Representative of agencies involved in the development of maritime manpower

      Requirements:

      • Two(2) pieces of latest 1 ½ x 1 ½ photograph
      • Applicant must be a High School Graduate
      • Must be at least 17 years old

       

      RSC – Radar Simulation Course

      Offered to: All Deck Officers; 3/M, 2/M & Captain

      Requirements:

      • Photocopy of valid PRC License
      • Photocopy of Shipboard Experience Certificate or Sea-Going Service Record
      • Photocopy of ROC Certificate or certification that the enrollee passed the ROC Course
      • Two(2) pieces of latest 1 ½ x 1 ½ photograph

       

      RABTSR – Radar, ARPA, Bridge Teamwork and Search and Rescue

      Offered to: All Management
      Deck Officers; 2/M, C/M Captain

      Requirements:

      • Photocopy of valid PRC License
      • Photocopy of Ishihara Eyesight Test Result or previous Medical Result
      • Photocopy of ROC and RSC
      • Certificate or certification that the enrollee passed the RSC Course
      • Two(2) pieces of latest 1 ½ x 1 ½ photograph

       

      ECDIS – Operational Use of Electronic Chart Display and Information System

      Offered to: All Deck Officers; 3/M, 2/M, C/M & Captain

      Requirements:

      • Photocopy of valid PRC License
      • Photocopy of Shipboard Experience Certificate or Sea-Going Service Record
      • Photocopy of Ishihara Eyesight Test Result or previous Medical Result
      • Two(2) pieces of latest 1 ½ x 1 ½ photograph

       

      SSBT – Ship Simulator and Bridge Teamwork

      Offered to: All Deck Officers;
      3/M, 2/M, C/M & Captain

      Requirements:

      • Photocopy of valid PRC License
      • Photocopy of Ishihara Eyesight Test Result or previous Medical Result
      • Photocopy of ARPA (Radar navigation at Operational Level) formerly ROPC
        Certificate or certification that the enrollee passed the ARPA Course
      • Two(2) pieces of latest 1 ½ x 1 ½ photograph

       

      ERS – Engine Room Simulator

      Offered to: All Marine Engineers; 4/E 3/E, 2/E, 1A/E & Chief Engineers

      Requirements:

      • Photocopy of valid PRC License
      • Two(2) pieces of latest 1 ½ x 1 ½ photograph

    • Is studying at the AMOSUP Seamen’s Training Center free?

      All training courses are subsidized.

    • Can my friend enroll at the Training Center?

      Yes, non-members can enroll. However, they must pay for the full cost of training fees.

    • What are the application requirements?

      1. 2 copies of recent 2×2 colored pictures
      2. Payment of non-refundable processing fee of P300.00 in cash of check/month order payable to MAAP
      3. Photocopy of Birth Certificate
      4. Photocopy of High School Diploma / Certificate of Graduation / ALS Certificate of Completion
      5. Photocopy of valid School ID
      6. Photocopy of High School Report Card with at least a GPA of 83%
    • Can walk-in applicants be considered?

      Yes, if they submit the requirements and are assessed as qualified examinees.

    • What are the facilities of the MAAP?

      MAAP has two campuses with facilities that include the ff.:

      1. Two (2) Full Mission Navigation Bridge Simulators each linked to a Full Mission Engine Simulator. The new Center has 360º field of vision on a Motion Platform while the other has a 235º, 7-channel field of vision
      2. Two (2) GMSS Equipment for live training in procedures of sending and receiving distress calls
      3. Analog Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator
      4. Computer-based Propulsion Plant Trainer that simulates various engine room system from the main engine to the refrigeration plant
      5. Two (2) LabVolt Electrotech Laboratories for training in electricity and electronics with interactive software
      6. Two (2) Machine Shops with 40 lathe machines, milling machines, machines vises, grinder and grill presses, as well as UNITOR electric arc, gas (oxy-acetylene) and TIG/MIG welding booths
      7. Physics Laboratory
      8. Chemistry Laboratory
      9. Modern Library with over 8,000 volumes
      10. Microwave/VSAT system and three servers for telecommunications and Internet access
      11. Two (2) Computer laboratories each with 25 internet-ready workstations and one instruction station

    • Is the tuition really free?

      Yes, the tuition fee is free-of-charge. Boards and lodging as well as books and manuals are free. However, students must shoulder the cost of uniforms and personal expenses.

    • What is the instructor-student ratio per class?

      To ensure the high quality of instruction, the maximum is set at 1:25

    • Are cadets allowed to leave the campus?

      All midshipmen are full-time, stay -in students. However, they have periodic visitation and shore leaves.

    • What are the courses it offers?

      • Professional Development Courses(PDC) –  short duration, tailor-made courses are undertaken either on-site or through distance learning.Courses include MaritimeSecurity and the ISPS Code , Commercial Shipping Management, Maritime Trasport Laws, Maritime Pollution Prevention, Advanced Maritime English, Advance Courses on Fire-Fighting, Specialized and Advance Simulator Training and Selected ILO and IMO Conventions Applications.
      • Advanced Management Programs – longer durations courses undertaken in-house geared toward preparing maritime professionals towards a career in the allied industries. Programs include Port Management, Container Terminal Planning, Marine Casualty Investigation, Sustainable Coastal Development and Marine Environment Protection.
      • Post-Graduate Studies – initial offering is the certificate courses for Maritime Education and Training (PGCERT) leading to a master’s degree, designed for those will pursue a teaching career.
      • Research Projects/Services – As an attached facility to the MAAP, its students will benefit from the Academy’s manpower complement and its host of facilities.

       

       

    • Who are qualified to study at CAMS?

      Senior maritime officers and other maritime professionals sponsored by the Union’s social Partners may be admitted to undertake advance education subject to admission guidelines prescribed and implemented by an Executive Committee.

    • How much is the tuition fee?

      Unaffiliated students – P2,000/unit
      AMOSUP Member – P1,000/unit
      Japanese Shipping – P200/unit
