MANILA, Philippines — The All Japan Seamen’s Union (AJSU) & The Associated Marine Officers and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP) yesterday inaugurated the newly constructed annex of the Mariners’ Home in Malate, Manila, in a bid to meet the increasing demand of its members.

Senate President Pro-Tempore Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada led the inauguration of the facility, together with representatives from the Japanese embassy and AMOSUP members.

Dr. Conrado Oca, AMOSUP president, said the facility was constructed with the help of the All-Japan Seamen’s Union as a sign of brotherhood between Filipino and Japanese seafarers and to benefit seamen, especially those working for Japanese shipping firms and agencies.

“This was our timely response to the growing number of Filipino seafarers. Thanks to the spirit of brotherhood between Filipino and Japanese seafarers, this structure was built,” Oca said.

The eight-story structure is equipped with modern facilities which may be used by members. It also has a medical facility that is open to ailing family members. From The Manila BulletinBy JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINANApril 18, 2011, 7:25pm
